Over the last several months, Arshdeep Singh has emerged as a surprise in T20 cricket. In the 2022 Indian Premier League season, Arshdeep bowled yorkers at will and kept his composure in crucial situations, impressing India selectors. He then replicated those skills in international cricket, leading many to feel that the teenager is a serious candidate for the T20 World Cup. And when Arshdeep put up a strong showing against the West Indies in the fourth T20I, scoring three times, India legend Venkatesh Prasad had high praise for the 23-year-old. With two of those wickets coming in the last overs with superb yorkers, Arshdeep ended with 3 for 12 in only 3.1 overs. With the aid of Arshdeep, India bowled out West Indies for only 132 runs in 19.1 overs, securing a 59-run victory that also helped them win the series. Even more amazing about Arshdeep was the fact that in the seven deliveries he bowled in the last overs, he only gave up one run while also scooping up two wickets.

Prasad, who was very pleased with Arshdeep’s skill, tweeted: “Arshdeep Singh at 23 in the final overs is as brilliant as anybody in World cricket. Early on in his career, he already has excellent talents and looks to have a very level head on his shoulders. Man, be on the lookout for #IndvWI.

Former India captain and head selector Krishnamachari Srikkanth had earlier pushed Arshdeep heavily and encouraged current chief selector Chetan Sharma to choose the left-arm seamer in India’s T20 World Cup team.

He will eventually hold the top spot in T20Is. He is exceptional. It’s Arshdeep Singh! Keep a record of it. He’ll play for the T20 World Cup squad. Before the third T20I match between India and West Indies began, he had urged on Fan Code, “Come on Chetu, please take his name too.
