Despite India’s less than stellar performance in the 2021 T20 World Cup, they are still regarded as one of the teams to beat going into the 2022 competition, which will be held in Australia. India will be one of just two sides, along with the hosts themselves, to make it to the final this year, according to former Australia captain Ricky Ponting.

In a lopsided final, Australia defeated New Zealand by eight wickets to win the 2021 T20 World Cup for the first time. They got there by defeating Pakistan, the only team in the Super 12 stage to have won each of its games. Ponting said that he did not expect Aaron Finch’s team to win the championship in the United Arab Emirates, making them the clear favorites are given that they would be playing at home.

“I believe that Australia will defeat India in the final amongst the two teams competing in it: Australia and Australia. The fact that the defending champions are playing at home is one factor that made Australia’s victory in the most recent World Cup, albeit not particularly noteworthy, just a little bit sweeter for them, according to Ponting on the website of the International Cricket Council (ICC).

Ponting said that he shared the opinion that Australia wouldn’t be successful in the UAE. “The fact that many people, including myself, believed that they would not have been able to win the IPL because of the circumstances they would have had to deal with in the UAE led me to believe that. But they managed to do it ” he said.

India performed poorly in the 2021 tournament compared to Australia, losing badly to Pakistan and New Zealand in the Super 12 stage, which led to their elimination despite winning the rest of their games. Following his pre-tournament decision, Virat Kohli resigned as captain, while Ravi Shastri elected to stand down as head coach. Since then, Rohit Sharma has taken over as the team’s captain across all competitions, while Shastri has been replaced as head coach by former captain Rahul Dravid.
