The second Test between India and Bangladesh will not include India’s usual skipper Rohit Sharma since he was unable to fully recuperate from a finger injury he sustained earlier this month. Therefore, KL Rahul will continue to lead the Indian team as captain in his place, and the team’s goal will be to sweep the series after the visitors defeated Bangladesh by 188 runs in the first Test match at Chattogram.

Rohit won’t be available for the second Test, which will start on December 22 at Mirpur, according to a Cricbuzz report. Rohit suffered a thumb injury against Bangladesh in the second ODI earlier this month, and as a result, he was unable to play in the third game or the first Test match.

Rohit wasn’t healed from the injury when he was supposed to join the squad at Mirpur. According to the report, the BCCI and the selection committee have agreed not to take any chances since India has critical matches coming up. The 35-year-old may continue to bat, but the medical staff is still worried about the damage sustained during fielding, it was further said. Rohit will thus try to be ready for India’s three T20Is and as many ODIs against Sri Lanka in the white-ball series beginning January 3.

India will continue to choose Shubman Gill as their opener for the second Test since Rohit is unable to play. The youthful player took full advantage of his chance in the first Test, scoring his first century in India’s overwhelming victory.

Regarding the Chattogram Test, Gill and Cheteshwar Pujara both struck a tonne as India firmly established a goal of 513 runs. Kuldeep Yadav received the Player of the Match award, nevertheless, in recognition of his all-around performance. He pulled up a record five-wicket haul in the first innings after contributing a key 40-run contribution to a 96-run partnership with Ashwin. In his first Test outing in 22 months, he increased his wicket total by three more in the second innings.
