The Indian Premier League 2022 might be a much-needed event for Indian players that want to be a part of winning the IPL trophy. Many players have been chosen into the senior squad solely based on their IPL performances in recent IPL history. The competition has such a strong effect on selectors that a few strong performances in crucial moments may quickly put a player on their radar.

As a result, we take a look at five international cricketers who have the potential to make an impression in the forthcoming edition.

Ishan Kishan:

The emerging star has been one of India’s most talked-about cricketers in recent years, thanks to his performances for MI in the IPL. He struggled with form, with detractors questioning his consistency, but the wicketkeeper-batter rebounded last season at the tail end of the IPL to show he’s in it for the long haul. MI has kept their trust in Ishan Kishan and signed him for 15.5 crores in the auction. This season, he is set to open the innings alongside captain Rohit Sharma, and the squad will be hoping he hits the target on a regular basis. In 115 T20s, the 23-year-old has scored 2902 runs at an average of 28.73 with a strike rate of 132.20.

Shreyas Iyer:

Iyer was released by the Delhi Capitals ahead of the IPL 2022 auction, where he was snapped up by Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) for INR 12.25 crore. He has been in tremendous form in the last IND vs SL series and expected to score some big runs in the upcoming IPL. Iyer has taken over as the franchise’s new captain, replacing Eoin Morgan. Iyer is considered as someone who can lead the team on its new path in a more lively and optimistic manner. The team advanced to the final of the IPL 2021, but were defeated by CSK. They will face Chennai in their IPL 2022 opener and have a chance to flip the tables. In 164 T20s, the 27-year-old has scored 4409 runs at an average of 33.40 with a strike rate of 130.36.

KL Rahul:

KL Rahul was signed for Rs 17 crore by the RPSG group’s Lucknow franchise. Notably, as a result of the agreement, he is now the highest-paid player in the IPL’s 15th season. KL Rahul has a fantastic average of 43.50 and a good strike rate of 137.96 for the franchise and among those who have scored 5000+ runs in the 170 T20s. He has also won the orange cap in IPL 2020 and missed the cap for merely 9 runs in IPL 2021. Rahul will head the Lucknow SuperGiants, one of two new clubs set to compete in the IPL in 2022.

Hardik Pandya:

The explosive Indian all-rounder established his reputation with the Mumbai Indians, who have won the Indian Premier League five times (MI). While his recent unstable behaviour forced MI to part ways with him, it turned out to be a wonderful thing for him, as he is now happy working for his home franchise. Despite the fact that he will be captaining the team, fans will be keeping an eye on his batting form, as well as his position as a pace bowler, as he has not bowled regularly since undergoing back surgery three years ago. The 28-year-old has 2797 runs at an average of 21.42 and a strike rate of 141.76 in 175 T20s.

Virat Kohli:

Virat Kohli understands the pressures that come with heading a high-profile franchise, having captained Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) for the past nine editions. The maverick batter, on the other hand, has stepped down as captain and is now focused on giving his all in the tournament’s 15th edition. Kohli will try to repeat his performance from the 2016 edition, when he hit around 1,000 runs after relinquishing the captaincy. The 33-year-old has 10273 runs at an average of 41.09 and a strike rate of 133.24 in 326 T20s.
